More Hockey Scoring Drill Ideas

Once again we have some awesome drills, compliments of my Czech friend, Oldrich Jindra. As a coach myself, I'm always looking for new hockey scoring drill ideas. And, Olly is showing us ones here that I think a lot of players could do on their own, or parents could help their young players try.

More Hockey Scoring Drill Ideas

As usual, I'd like members to first watch Oldrich's video, and I'll comment on the flip side...
What do you think? Would you call those some pretty good hockey scoring drill ideas? I would. Maybe the first drill was done as a warmup. However, I like the second one, where Olly is feeding the shooter in the slot. If you think about it, that situation happens often, with a player either getting a pass or just finding the puck in that area, and needing to quickly turn and pull the trigger. The next scoring idea is just a continuation of the previous one, with the shooter being given the option of turning either way, or putting a shot or move on the goaler from the forehand or backhand. I also like that Olly has changed locations next, and is now feeding the pass from a different area (so is the shooter taking his shot from a deeper spot in the zone). Hockey Scoring Drill IdeasDon't you love the one where a teammate slides the puck between the shooter's skates? Oh, it doesn't happen exactly like that in a game, but a potential shooter does need to react quickly to suddenly finding a puck in a good shooting location. Olly next complicates things a little more, changing the previous play so that the shooter faces away from the goaler while taking passes between his skates. I think the rest of the drills make sense, even the hot-dogging one that has the shooter reaching through his skates for a pass. Here are a few of my own thoughts, though...
I think Oldrich does us a favor by showing that these things can be worked on off the ice. However, I hope members can also visualize any or all of them being taken to the ice.

I hope that you also realize that Olly had the luxury of demonstrating these drills with a small number of kids. We, on the other hand, might have to find ways to get an entire team of players working on the same skills -- without having long lines. So, for this, I'd suggest either a number of nets, or having the players shoot on a section of the boards.
What I also think needs saying here is that the hockey scoring drill ideas in that video are relevant. I mean, Oldrich wasn't just dreaming up crazy things for his kids to do, but he was envisioning things that actually take place in a game. With that, they need working on -- lots.
